The program, successfully tested in three cities: Lisbon, Madrid and Paris, is part of the company's corporate social responsibility program "Driving Change".
The DPD group called on the national company Pollutrack to plan the program. Pollutrack provides air quality assessment and measurement tools to identify areas with high concentrations of fine particles (PM2.5), and has already been used by Enedis, the electricity distribution company of Electricité France (EDF), in places like Paris. The tool is being installed in utility vehicles to measure air quality in several cities in France.
Air quality measurements are carried out by installing portable laser sensors from Pollutrack in certain parcel delivery vehicles and in DPD Group's network of facilities (such as "Pickup" parcel processing stores, and urban delivery centers).
This sensor collects actual measurement data of PM2.5 concentration in the air every 12 seconds. This data is visualized on high-resolution maps, giving an overview of the city's air quality levels.
This environmental protection project will benefit both municipalities and residents by providing accurate measurements of urban air quality. In cities where the project has been launched, residents will also be able to check the air quality at their doorstep using a web interface.
The DPD group's objective is to reduce CO2 emissions per package by 30% by 2025 (compared to 2013).
